Bookshelves Full of Opportunities

In 2024, the Corendon Foundation supported the launch of a My Book Buddy library on Curaçao, at the Adventure Kids after-school care center. A place where children who rarely see books at home can now read and learn.

Thanks to the donation, 2025 sees locally crafted bookshelves filled with colorful books for various ages and reading levels. Each week, children are allowed to take a book home. This not only improves their reading skills but, more importantly, sparks their joy in reading. Parents and teachers are actively involved, ensuring the project has an impact beyond the care center itself.

Students from a vocational school in Willemstad handcrafted the bookshelves, one by one. Bruna Curaçao provided the books, while reading journals, book bags, and instructional materials were shipped from the Netherlands. Cathy Spierenburg, founder of My Book Buddy, is grateful for the Foundation’s support:
“Reading is incredibly important for children and young people – for everyone, really. Thanks to Corendon’s support, we can offer the children of Curaçao a better future by helping them develop their reading skills.”
